2013 Wilkinson Center Can Do Client Award Recipients- The Hartfield Family

The Hartfield family; Johnathan (27), Jazmine (21), Johnnie
(22), and Joselyn (24); came to Wilkinson Center in 2011 to
obtain their GED. They were homeschooled by their mother until
2006 and enrolled into GED preparation soon after, first at Martin
Luther King Center and later at the Skyline Library. When neither
institution met their personal or educational needs, they found
caring and supportive instructors and academic success at
Wilkinson Center.

Currently, Jazmine and Jonathan have received their GED.
Jazmine seeks to attend either Cedar Valley or El Centro College
as a veterinarian major; Johnathan will attend El Centro College to
pursue a degree in Business Management. Joselyn and Johnnie are preparing for the math section of the GED test. Joselyn is awaiting entry into the AmeriCorps Education Program. Once she obtains her GED, she wants to earn a Child Development Associate Degree, specializing in early childhood education. Johnnie has an interest in computers and music and will join Johnathan and his older siblings at El Centro College.

The Hartsfield’s volunteer at the Pleasant Grove Library. Joselyn
is a page and coordinates and supervises activities of afterschool
youth. On weekends, all the siblings assist with library events.
Wilkinson Center is very proud of this wonderful family.
They exemplify hard work, humility, and courage. As long as they
have each other and stick to their dreams, we know that they will
be a success.
